In 1974, Ron’s son Kevin joined the family business and the company decided to focus entirely on tower maintenance and erection services. In those early years, Kevin and his father designed, fabricated, and modified many custom hoisting and rigging systems, which manufacturers now use as standards of the tower erection industry. In 1990, the company’s name was changed to Great Plains Towers.
In 2023, the services portion of Great Plains Tower was purchased by
Minnkota Power Cooperative, an electric generation and transmission cooperative based in Grand Forks. The company was renamed Great Plains Tower Services and is located in West Fargo, N.D.
The company provides tower construction, inspection and maintenance services across the Upper Midwest. Great Plains Tower Services has also been featured on the Discovery Channel TV show Dirty Jobs.
